4.0  WORK METHODOLOGY
4.1  GENERAL
The fence shall be constructed in accordance with the details on the plans and as specified herein using new materials, and all work shall be performed in a workmanlike manner satisfactory to the Consultant / E.R.

Prior to the beginning of the work or upon the request of the Consultant, the Contractor shall locate the position of the work by establishing and marking the fence line. The finished fence shall be plumb, taut, true to line and ground contour, and complete in every detail.

There are five (5) basic steps involved in installing the fence and each of those steps has several different, equally effective options. There are;

·         Deciding how many wires need and then marking how high up and far apart they need to be placed on the ends and corners.
·         Insulating the wires from the end and corner posts.
·         Stretching the wire.
·         Connecting the wire.
·         Installing the in-line strainers, tension spring and then tightening the wire.

For handrail, all workmanship shall be of first class quality in every respect, the greatest accuracy being observed to ensure that all parts will fit together properly on erection. Erection procedure shall be in accordance with approved proposal (mock-up). During erection care shall be taken to avoid any shock, dynamic or vibrationary loading of the members. All holes shall be accurately marked off from templates or corresponding plates, and drilled, except in plates or under, when they may be punched. Holes should be cleaned or burrs or rough edges and counter-sunk where required. The surface area must be cleaned before proceed the work.

4.2  CHAIN LINK FENCES
4.2.1 Clearing Fence Lines
The site of the fence shall be sufficiently cleared of obstructions, and surface irregularities shall be graded so that the fence will confirm to the general contour of the ground. The fence line shall be cleared on each side of the fence centreline. This clearing shall consist of rocks or other obstructions that will interfere with proper construction of fence.

4.2.2 Installing Posts
The contractor shall fill, cut or trench where necessary to produce a smooth and uniform ground surface so the bottom of the fabrics not less than 300mm or more than 900mm above the finished ground line. All posts shall be set plumb, true to line and grade. Terminal posts, defined as end, corner, pull or gate posts, shall be set in concrete. The concrete footing shall be uniform thickness around the post. Distance of post shall according to the construction drawing and/or approved mock-up.

4.2.3 Bracing
All corner, end, pull, and gate posts shall be braced as shown on the drawings. Pull posts shall be used at sharp breaks in vertical grade or as directed by the Consultant.

4.2.4 Installing Fabric
Fabric shall be securely attached to end, corner, gate and pull posts in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. All fabrics shall be taut before attaching to line posts or tension wire. High and size for the fabric should follow as per construction drawing.

(a) Weaving Chain Link Fabric

(b) Stretching Chain Link Fabric
                                          i.            After rolling out the chain link and weaving the rolls together, ‘hook-up’ one end. Make sure the nuts are on the inside of the fence so they cannot be removed from outside the enclosure.
ii.            Pull the chain link tight by hand to the other end.
iii.            Stretch the fence using stretch tools. Do not over tighten.
iv.            ‘Dress’ the fabric as tighten it. ‘Dressing’ involves straightening the fabric diamonds so they run true.
                                         v.            Hand stretch the small section of chain link left between the come-a-long and terminal post by hand. Slide the tension bar into the mesh and make the last hook-up. Once all bolts are in place, remove the stretching tools.

4.2.5 Fencing Kerb
The contractor shall erect the formwork after the installation of chain link pole and the fabric. The height of kerb shall be 150mm. The concreting work shall be carried out after the formwork erected with G20 concrete.

4.3  HIGH TENSILE CABLE FENCES
High-tensile cable fence is an effective barrier for controlling and protective livestock. Some advantages of this type of fence include ease of handling, minimal maintenance and high strength. High-tensile cable fence can be easily electrified and will outlast most other fences.

4.3.1 Clearing Fence Lines
The site of the fence shall be sufficiently cleared of obstructions, and surface irregularities shall be graded so that the fence will confirm to the general contour of the ground. The fence line shall be cleared on each side of the fence centreline. This clearing shall consist of rocks or other obstructions that will interfere with proper construction of fence.

4.3.2 Installing Posts
The contractor shall fill, cut or trench where necessary to produce a smooth and uniform ground surface. All posts shall be set plumb, true to line and grade. Terminal posts, defined as end, corner, pull or gate posts, shall be set in concrete grade 20. The concrete footing shall be uniform thickness around the post, footing size 200x200x500mm. Distance of post shall according to the construction drawing and/or approved mock-up, 3m distance from post to other post.

4.3.3 Bracing
All corner, end, pull, and gate posts shall be braced as shown on the drawings. Pull posts shall be used at sharp breaks in vertical grade or as directed by the Consultant.

4.3.4 Installing Cable
High-tensile cable fencing is no more difficult to erect than other kinds of fencing.

(a)     Insulating the cable from the ends and corner posts.
Once the 12mm diameter high-tensile cable placements on the end and corner post have been set, insulate the cable from the posts. Next, fasten the ends of the wire together.

(b)     Stretching and fastening the cable.
Compared to other types of fences, this is probably one of the easiest parts of the whole process. The cable must be stretching and fastening using cable tension.

(c)     Installing the in-line strainers, tension spring and then tightening the cable.
The final step in the process is tightening the cable. Once the fence cable has been hooked to the ends it run the inline strainers can be installed.

4.4  GI RAILING
4.4.1 Clearing GI Railing Lines
The site of the GI railing shall be sufficiently cleared of obstructions, and surface irregularities shall be graded so that the railing will confirm to the general contour of the ground. The railing line shall be cleared on each side of the railing centreline. This clearing shall consist of rocks or other obstructions that will interfere with proper construction of railing.

4.4.2 Installing Posts
The contractor shall fill, cut or trench where necessary to produce a smooth and uniform ground surface. All posts shall be set plumb, true to line and grade. Terminal posts, defined as end, corner, pull or gate posts, shall be set in concrete grade 20 (for external GI railing) and using bolt and nut (for internal GI railing), then cover with concrete grade 30 (for internal GI railing). Distance of post shall according to the construction drawing and/or approved mock-up.

4.4.3 Bracing
All corner, end, pull, and gate posts shall be braced as shown on the drawings. Pull posts shall be used at sharp breaks in vertical grade or as directed by the Consultant.

4.4.4 Installing Balustrade/Railing
It is easy and the best way when the balustrades welding together with the post before install it at site. The welding spot must be smooth finishes. After installation, there should be applied the last layer of anti-corrosion coating, with approved colour code by consultant.

4.5  INSTALLING GATES
The gates shall be erected and hung on gate fittings as shown on the plans. They shall be attached in such a manner that the gate cannot be lifted off the hinges. Gates shall be erected to swing in the direction indicated and shall be provided with gate stops, as specified or as shown on the drawings.
