1.0 OBJECTIVE OF PROCEDURE
This procedure provides
details on work sequence, materials, equipment and safety with reference to
drawings, specification, field quality control and HSE Plan pertaining to (your project name).
2.0 SCOPE OF WORKS
To carry out painting works at as per contract
specification and to the Consultant approval.

4.0 SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMME
4.1 Safety
- All workers shall provide with PPE (Personal
Protective Equipment) and shall be worn every time they are enter the
site.
- Eye protection should be worn. If accidental
eye contamination occurs, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and seek
medical advice.
- If the product contacted with skin occurs, it
must be removed before curing takes place. Wash out with an industrial
skin cleaner followed by plenty of soap & water.
- The Safety Supervisor / Safety Officer shall
ensure the workers understand the safety regulations and explain in detail
in particular hazards, where the workers are working and the precaution to
be taken their safety.
4.2 Environmental
- All workers shall educate on good
environmental management practices and well-disciplined to environment.
- The garbage bin shall be provided at the
working area and Supervisor shall ensure its must be collected regularly
and disposed-off at the approved dumpsite.
- Spillage of component products should be
absorbed onto earth, sand or other inert material and transferred to a
suitable vessel. Disposal of such spillages or empty packaging should be
in accordance with local waste disposal authority regulations.
5.0 QA/QC
PROGRAMME
5.1 Inspections and Test Plan
In order to ensure the quality of Painting works
meet the requirement, inspection and test shall be carried out as per the
Project Quality Plan (PQP).

6.0 Work
Method Statement
6.1 General Instruction
§ Manufacturer’s technical information must be
provided by supplier such as label analysis, instruction for handling, storing and applying each material
proposed for use in this process.
§ Manufacturer’s approved subcontractor shall be
engage for the painting works.
6.2 Sample for
verification and confirmation
§ Mock-up of each colour and material to be applied
will be prepared for verification and confirmation by consultant
representative. Beside, colour chart indicating list of materials and
applications for each coat of each sample shall be submitted for approval prior
to physical works on site.
6.3 Delivery of Paint
- Deliver materials to the project site in
manufacturer’s original, unopened packages and containers bearing manufacturer’s
name and label. The label or decorated container shall state;

The manufacturer’s batch number
6.4 Storage
· Materials delivered are store in tightly covered
containers in a well-ventilated area at a minimum ambient temperature of 45o
Fahrenheit (7oc). Maintain containers in clean condition, free of
foreign materials and residue. Keep storage area neat and orderly, remove oily
rags and waste daily.
6.5 Executions
- Paint shall not be applied in rain, mist or
when the relative humidity exceeds 85 percent or to damp or wet surfaces.
Primer and finish coats
- Examine substrates, areas and conditions under
which painting will be performed for compliance with paint application
requirements. Paint shall not be applied until unsatisfactory conditions
have been corrected and surfaces receiving paint are thoroughly dry.
- Review other section in which primers are
provided to ensure compatibility of the total system for various
substrates.
- Remove hardware and hardware accessories,
plates, machined surfaces, lighting, fixtures and similar items already
installed that are not to be painted. If removal is impractical or
impossible because of the size or weight of the item, surface applied
protection shall be provided before surface preparation and painting.
After completing painting operation in each space of area, reinstall items
removed using workers skilled in trades involved.
- Cleaning the substrates of substances that
could impair the bond of the various coatings. Oil and grease shall be
removed before clearing.
SURFACE PREPARATION OF PLASTERING.ETC.
- Cracks and other
imperfections are to be pointed or cut and make good.
- Determine moisture
content of surfaces by performing appropriate test (refer ITP) by the
supplier representative.
SURFACE PREPARATION OF METALWORK.
·
All dirt and grease is to be removed by wiping or washing.
· All rust, scale or loose priming paints are to be removed back to bare
metal by wire brushing or chipping as required.
·
Surface is to be rubbed down to remove all irregularities.
· Bare patches in metalwork delivered primed are to be brought forward
with the appropriate primer before receiving the treatment specified.
SURFACE PREPARATION OF WOODWORK.
·
All dirt, grease, etc. is to be cleaned.
·
Surface is to be rubbed down with sand paper to remove all projecting
fibres, particular attention being paid to mouldings. All dust shall be removed
SEALERS AND PRIMERS
All surfaces to be oil painted shall be treated with
the appropriate sealer or primer, as follows:
· Plastered, rendered, concrete, brick, asbestos cement and similar surfaces:
apply one coat of alkali-resisting primer.
·
Hardboard, fireboard, etc.: apply one coat of plaster primer.
·
Plastic surfaces: etch with abrasive paper and white spirit.
· Steel and iron surface: apply one coat of red lead primer or zinc
chromate primer. Edges are to be primed first and allowed to dry, and then the
whole surface primed.
· Galvanised or zinc surfaces: either applies one coat of calcium plumbate
primer or etch. With proprietary solution and apply one coat of zinc chromate
primer. Etching solution is to keep away from plaster, and is to be well washed
off and the metal dried before priming.
· Copper, aluminium and lead surfaces: etch with abrasive paper and white
spirit.
· Coated soil pipe etc.: apply one coat of aluminium primer.
PRIMING JOINERY.
· All joinery to be painted shall be primed before delivery to the site
or, in the case of joinery prepared on site, as soon as possible after
preparation. Surfaces subsequently cut or damaged shall be re-primed.
· All hidden faces of joinery, including the back of boarding, frames,
skirting, architraves, etc. and bottom edges of doors, shall be primed before
fixing. Approved clear wood preservative shall be using instead, where adjacent
faces have polished or natural finish.
PRIMING METALWORK.
- All steel and ironwork to be painted, except
plumbing pipe work and electrical conduit, shall be primed before assembly
or fixing, including laps, ends for building in, and other concealed
parts.
NAILS HEADS IN WALL LININGS.ETC.
- Head of nails, or pins in hardboard,
fibreboard and similar linings to be distempered or emulsion painted are
to be spotted with one coat of primer and one undercoat of oil paint
before the lining is decorated.
VARNISHING
· Woodwork is to be prepared for varnishing as
described above, particular attention being paid to cleanliness of the timber
where clear varnish is required. Brushes and containers are to be kept
scrupulously clean. Formation of froth and air-bubbles is to be avoided.
Varnish for interior use shall conform to B.S 256 and for exterior use to B.S
257.
WAX POLISHING
§ Woodwork is to be prepared for wax polishing
as described above, particular attention being paid to cleanliness of the
timber. Polish is to be an approved proprietary wax polish, applied in two
coats, each coat well worked in and polished.
WOOD PRESERVATIVE.
§ All unexposed timbers are deemed to be
treated with approved wood preservative.
MAKING GOOD.
§ Any cracks or defects appearing in painted
surfaces before completion or before the expiration of the Defects and
Liability Period shall be cut out, stooped, primed and painted and in affected
wood-seal areas they shall be sanded and re-coated and make good to the
satisfaction of the Architect. Where cracks occur in walls they shall be filled
with appropriate fillers and shall be repainted as directed by the Architect.
PROTECTION
§ All other works, fitting, paving etc. shall be
covered up and protected as necessary during decoration, and all splashes and
paint marks shall be removed on completion
